Create a Believable Character in 15 Minutes

Struggling to bring your characters to life? You’re not alone. Writing is hard sometimes; let’s make it easier. In just a few minutes, you can build the foundation for a character readers will remember—and it starts with asking the right questions.

• Step 1: Start with their Want vs Need.
  Every great character wants something and needs something else. Example: They want revenge but need healing. 
• Step 2: Give them a contradiction.
  Make them brave but insecure. Kind but manipulative. Complexity = believability.
• Step 3: Ask one deep question.
  What do they fear more than death? What lie do they believe about themselves?
• Step 4: Ask one silly question.

    What’s in their pocket? What’s a food they can’t stand? Why? 

You don’t have to tell everything in the book, but just knowing will let details seep through and add color and depth into your character.
